A young man was shot and injured in West Babylon Saturday night, and a police officer who was responding to the incident was struck by a car.
Officials say a 21-year-old man was shot in the back during a party on Cortland Street. A neighbor says there was a lot of shouting and yelling at the party before police arrived.
Police responded to the scene, and one of the officers who was directing traffic in the area was struck by a vehicle.
The officer was treated for a leg injury and the driver wasn't charged, according to police.
Police say the shooting victim underwent surgery and is in stable condition. Officers are still searching for the suspect who shot him.
