The Democratic National Convention wrapped up Thursday night with Hillary Clinton formally accepting the nomination for president, marking the first time a major political party picked a woman to lead the ticket.

Clinton touched on the historic nature of her nomination in her acceptance speech, but she also portrayed herself as detail-oriented policy maker driven by service.

Clinton contrasted her approach to the job with that of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. She says Trump lacks the temperament to serve as commander in chief.

Clinton also made a commitment to affordable health care, to women's right to choose, and to an expansion of Social Security, along with better wages for blue collar workers and beyond.

Democrats on the floor were thrilled with Clinton's performance.

With both major party's conventions now in the books, the race shifts to the general election.

There is just over 100 days until Americans choose their next president.
