Motorcyclist killed in crash with alleged drunken driver

A father from Copiague was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck driven by an alleged drunken driver Saturday night.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. in East Farmingdale. Police say Thomasz Myszke's motorcycle collided with a truck as it made a left turn onto Conklin Street from Wellwood Avenue.
The driver of the truck, 49-year-old Edward Okon, of Melville, failed a sobriety test at the scene, according to prosecutors.
Police say Okon didn't immediately stop after the crash and was flagged down by construction workers.
Okon is charged with DWI and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in court Sunday. His attorney says Okon was so upset during his court appearance that he was asked to sit back on a bench during the proceeding.
He was ordered held on $15,000 cash bail.
Okon's wife and daughter declined to comment after his arraignment.
Myszke, 39, leaves behind a wife and a young son and daughter. His brother-in-law, Michael Makowsky, says the family is in shock. "My sister is in the process of trying to explain it to them, the way it is for 8- or 9-year-old kids," he says. "It's going to be tough, I don't know how she's going to handle it."
