Drone captures Long Beach lightning strike

A drone captured an image of a large bolt of lightning in Long Beach as storms swept through the area Thursday.

As News 12 has reported, five people were injured in Long Beach by lightning as the storms passed through. It happened as lifeguards were trying to clear the area.

The chief lifeguard says beachgoers were taking too long to leave the sand as the storms rolled in.

Three lifeguards and two beachgoers were shocked. One person was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

The finals of the Surf's Up competition were underway at the time, but were postponed.
