East End villagers demand removal of ‘Welcome to NY’ signs

Some 'Welcome to New York' signs are not getting a warm welcome in Montauk.
The signs showed up about 10 days ago on Flamingo Road as part of the Empire State Development Offices' 'I Love New York' campaign, and residents and officials are demanding they be taken down.
Some residents say the large signs are not reflective of the character of the village. Local leaders say they had no advance notice of the signs until the state Department of Transportation installed them.
Leaders are working with Albany to see if a solution can be reached to either remove or change the signs.
An Empire State Development spokesperson tells News 12 that "it will work with state and local officials to ensure any concerns they have are addressed."
