Pizzeria proposes extended late-night hours on weekends
A pizzeria in Babylon Village is hoping to make extra dough by catering to the late-night bar crowd.
Keith Dahmen, owner of Gino's Pizza, wants the eatery to stay open until 3 a.m. on weekends to service the crowds leaving nearby bars. The restaurant is currently open until 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
He says although bars close early in the morning, he has to close his doors earlier because of a village ordinance, which limits restaurant hours.
Dahmen asked the village board for permission at a public hearing earlier this month, however village trustees are concerned about vandalism and rowdy behavior from the late night crowds.
"My feeling is that there is going to be a compromise. I don't think they're going to get exactly the time he wants, but I think there will be something he's happy with," Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino says.
The board will vote on Dahmen's request Tuesday.
