Wantagh man attempts record-breaking bike ride for fundraiser

A Wantagh cyclist is attempting to ride 400 miles in 24 hours in an effort to raise money for charity.
Phil Kingsbury will attempt the feat at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford beginning Thursday night. He is raising money for the Miles for Matt Foundation.
Matt Scarpati, of Dix Hills, was killed in 2009 on the Jones Beach bike trail. A drunken motorcyclist ran off the road and struck Scarpati while he was changing a flat bicycle tire.
After the incident, Matt's parents worked to get a guardrail installed along the Wantagh Parkway in 2010. Kingsbury, who is raising money for the foundation for the third consecutive year, says the guardrail has saved many lives.
" [Matt Scarpati] is not here today, but he is in my heart," says Kingsbury.
Miles for Matt raises money for guardrails and other safety awareness programs for bike riders. The foundation also gives to the Sunrise Day Camp for children with cancer.
