10 weeks of lane closures expected on Vets Highway
Preparations have begun in Suffolk County for a major repaving project on Veterans Memorial Highway.
The state's Department of Transportation says the project will cover a mile and a half between Old Willets Path and Route 111, a stretch of road near Route 347 and the Northern State Parkway.
The work will restrict traffic to a single lane between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for 10 weeks, but multiple lane closures would still take place overnight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Many drivers are unhappy with the traffic problems the work will cause.
"I'll have to take another route, because I'm not going to sit in traffic," says Renee Murphy, a St. James woman who works in Brentwood.
