Officials eye proposal for solar farm at Shoreham plant site

A plan for a new solar farm in Shoreham could power thousands of homes, but some critics say it would not be good for the environment.
The solar farm would be built beside the decommissioned Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant.
National Grid and its partner say it would produce enough energy for 13,000 homes.
Brookhaven Town officials are adamant about protecting the 350 acres of woods that would be eliminated to make room for the solar farm. They are asking New York state officials to designate it as a protected forest.
Town Supervisor Ed Romaine says the land is zoned for 1-acre homes, not for industrial projects.
"Save your money, save your breath. I speak for the Town Board. We are united against this," says Romaine.
