Man electrocuted while trimming tree in Commack
Police say a man was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with a power line while trimming a tree in Commack.
Neighbors on Roberta Lane said they heard chainsaws starting early in the morning. The man came in contact with the line around 10:30 a.m. and was found dangling from a tree.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 39-year-old Oscar Diaz, of Brentwood.
Crews had to shut off power to about 100 homes in the neighborhood as they worked to remove Diaz's body from the tree. Power was later restored.
Police say Diaz was working with GA Island Landscaping Corps and was performing work at the home at the time.
News 12 is told he was a father of four who was working with GA Island on weekends to earn extra cash. During the week, he worked with another company, Hernandez Tree Service.
