Pedestrian struck, seriously injured in Central Islip
A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Central Islip early Sunday morning.
Police say 33-year-old Renee Mendez Campos, of Central Islip, was crossing Suffolk Avenue near Carleton Avenue. He was struck by a vehicle driven by 66-year-old Felix Vargas.
Campos was taken to Southside Hospital with serious injuries. Police say Vargas and his female passenger were unhurt.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and an investigation into the incident is continuing, according to police.
