280-pound shark wins annual Hudson Anglers Tournament
Hundreds of shark fisherman headed out on the waters of the South Shore Saturday during the 44th annual Hudson Anglers Tournament.
The fishermen had until 6 p.m. to catch the heaviest shark they could.
At the end of the day, a boat called "Spare Parts" took the top spot with a 280-pound thresher shark.
Another crew from Oceanside named "Mako Wish II" hauled in a 261-pound mako shark.
Freeport Village Mayor Robert Kennedy told News 12 that the tournament brings in substantial revenue.
"There's thousands of people here. The hotels, the restaurants, the gasoline, the bait shops, it's really a tremendous infusion of dollars," said Kennedy.
Cash prizes went to the top five fishermen who bring in the heaviest shark.
