5.1 magnitude earthquake rocks southern California
Officials say a 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit southern California earlier this morning with tremors being felt up to 100 miles away.
The US Geological Survey says the earthquake struck Palm Springs just after 1 a.m. Pacific time.
The shallow quake touched off a series of smaller aftershocks.
Residents as far as San Diego took to social media to report they felt it.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
