Police say a child and a teen escaped a carjacking in Roosevelt on Wednesday evening.
According to police, a 33-year-old mother of three went into Midway Deli on Nassau Road with her son and left the car running with two of her children asleep in the back seat.
Surveillance video from the scene shows a man walking around the Mercedes, getting in and driving off.
When the 6-year-old and 17-year-old girls woke up, and the car slowed down in Freeport a few miles away, the sisters were able to jump from the car. They suffered some cuts and bruises, but are expected to be OK.
The carjacker, possibly realizing that he had become a kidnapper, is seen on another surveillance camera parking the car behind Paul's Auto Detailing on Merrick Road and fleeing the scene.
No arrests have been made.
Police are asking anyone with information about the carjacker to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
