Police say a man demanding "papers" approached another man with a knife in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Valley Stream Sunday.
Detectives say a 52-year-old man had left the store on Green Acres Road and was loading up his trunk when the suspect approached him with a knife and demanded "papers."
Police say the victim replied, "I have no papers," and then suddenly fell to the ground. Detectives say the suspect then "placed the knife on the victim's stomach, causing a small laceration."
The suspect fled in an unknown direction and did not take anything from the victim. Police say the victim refused medical attention at the scene.
Detectives are calling the incident an attempted robbery. They describe the suspect as a black male with dreadlocks who wore a red shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
