AAA: 34M expected to hit the road for holiday weekend
Friday was a busy travel day for Long Islanders getting away ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
The TSA said it made changes to help security lines move faster at the region's airports. The agency had been under fire lately for the security lines.
About 2.6 million people are expected to fly this Memorial Day weekend. The TSA advised passengers flying within the United States to get to the airport at least two hours before their flight.
Meanwhile, AAA said 34 million people would be driving at least 50 miles to their destination. Traffic jams on the way to the Hamptons were already developing Friday morning.
On Long Island, the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.46, according to AAA. The price is 47 cents down from this time last year.
The LIRR resumed its express service to the Hamptons today. The cannonball leaves Penn Station at 4:06 p.m. and gets to Westhampton in 95 minutes. It returns from Montauk Sunday evening.
There is also extra service to Montauk, the Hamptons, and Greenport all summer long.
