Police: Islip Terrace man killed in Southern State crash

An Islip Terrace man was killed in a one-car accident on the Southern State Parkway this morning.

According to state troopers, the accident occurred on the westbound side of the parkway near exit 37.

Troopers say Eugene Ellis, 37, drove his Hyundai Sonata off the road, struck a pole and was ejected. The vehicle struck a tree, which fell onto Ellis, killing him.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Ellis was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The westbound Southern State was closed during the morning commute, but has since reopened.
