SPCA seizes pet Capuchin monkey in Suffolk

The SPCA says a Long Islander was keeping a Capuchin monkey as a pet without the proper permits.

The creature was removed from a home Friday in Brentwood. The monkey, named Luna, is 22 years old and appeared to be healthy. Officials say Luna lived with its owner since it was a baby.

Luna is now being taken to a licensed wildlife facility.

Capuchin monkeys are native to the forests of Central and South America. Experts say they can spread disease.

They have a lifespan of about 50 years.
