Two Russian boys who received heart surgery on Long Island showed their appreciation Thursday to the high school heroes who made their lifesaving trip to the U.S. possible.
Students from Manhasset High School raised $10,000 to get the 5-year-old boys Kiril Polyansky and Artem Sarafnov the surgery they need to correct a congenital heart defect. They money raised was in partnership with the nonprofit "Gift of Life."
The boys' mothers did not speak English, but expressed their gratitude toward the doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn and the students who raised funds for the procedure.
Manhasset High School is one of several Long Island schools that raise funds for the Gift of Life program.
