Coastal communities along the Peconic Bay are bracing for flooding and beach erosion as this weekend's storm moves in.
In addition to significant snowfall and whipping winds, forecasters are expecting tides to be about 4 feet above normal, due in part to the full moon.
In Riverhead, parking lots that run alongside the Peconic River near Main Street are prone to flooding. Town Supervisor Sean Walter says the lots will likely be closed during the storm.
Further east in Jamesport, the fire department is bracing for flooding. Fire officials say the department has a new high-water rescue truck that's ready to use, if needed.
In Southold, residents are concerned about beach erosion at Kenny Beach, along with flooding in low-lying areas.
Riverhead and Southold town officials both say they may have to close some roads if the flooding becomes bad enough.
