Suffolk PD, Muslim leaders meet to discuss backlash

Suffolk police met with Muslim community leaders Thursday to hear their concerns regarding recent anti-Muslim backlash.
The meeting at police headquarters in Yaphank gave Muslim leaders a chance to speak about how recent terror attacks around the globe have impacted communities on Long Island.
Dr. Mohamed Sameen talked about his 7-year-old daughter being bullied on her school bus because of her head covering.
"She got very bad looks from a lot of people. That's never happened before. We've been living here 27 years," said Sameen.
Suffolk's Deputy Police Commissioner Tim Sini said the meeting was "timely."
"This was a great way to highlight our solidarity with the Muslim community," said Sini.

Suffolk police are asking Muslim leaders to let them know if they see someone within their own community who could be a threat.
Muslim leaders said they felt encouraged after the meeting and vowed to do their part to help police protect everyone.
