Man who recorded arrest plans to sue county
A Center Moriches man who claimed he was arrested for recording an incident involving police is now planning to sue the Suffolk Police Department and the district attorney for $2 million.
The video recorded by 21-year-old Thomas Demint last year shows police trying to arrest a mother and son in Center Moriches.
Demint was arrested after recording the video and charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. He claims police tried to erase the video from his phone.
The district attorney dropped all charges against Demint on Friday "in the interest of justice."
"They violated my client's civil rights, they had him fallaciously arrested and they maliciously prosecuted him for 16 months," said Demint's attorney, Ken Mollins.
Demint filed a notice of claim against the county, the police department and Suffolk's district attorney.
Suffolk police say they cannot comment on pending litigation.
