Ex-Hofstra student re-arraigned on lewdness charge

A former Hofstra student was re-arraigned Friday on charges that he exposed himself to a female classmate last year.

Eric Peterson was arrested and charged with pubic lewdness in September 2014. Those charges were eventually dismissed because of a technicality. The alleged victim was then given the opportunity to refile her original charges.

As News 12 previously reported, the then-19-year-old woman claims that Peterson exposed himself during class. In a statement, she says he also texted her, "just touch it" and "under the desk."

After a hearing about the alleged incident at Hofstra, Peterson lost his baseball scholarship and was kicked out of school.

"You don't expect that when you're sitting in class," says the alleged victim, who did not want to be identified. "I was really upset about what he did, but I was even more upset that he continued to lie about it."

Peterson was released without bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim. He and his attorney had no comment about the case.

Peterson is due back in court on Jan. 21.
