Officials say 1,500 new apartments could be coming to Ronkonkoma near the train station.
The developer will submit the building permit applications next week, according to Newsday.
The Ronkonkoma Hub would include offices, stores and housing near the railroad and airport.
If the plan is approved, the developer hopes to break ground next year.
Some businesses worry their land could be taken over through eminent domain for the project.
