Police seek 3 suspects in North Bellport shooting
Police say a man was shot three times on Taylor Avenue in North Bellport at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Walter Harris, 53, of Bellport. He is expected to recover.
According to officials, three suspects drove up alongside of Harris and asked him if he had a cigarette. Before he had time to answer, one of the men in the car pulled out a handgun and shot him.
Police say Harris ran and hid behind a truck and the car drove off. He was shot twice in the arm and once in the chest.
The location of the shooting is just over a mile away from where Robert Burks was shot and killed exactly a week ago. Burks and Harris had been friends since they were children, and were part of a group of friends who met at a local deli almost daily.
"If you had beef with somebody, then we'd know who we're looking at," says Bryan Bethea, a friend of the victims. "They had no beef. They're the most humble guys around here."
