Residents commemorate Veterans Day

Flags flew across Long Island Wednesday as the nation commemorated Veterans Day.

Veterans Day parades were held in Saint James and Southampton Wednesday morning.

The Saint James parade ended with a ceremony at Saint James Elementary School. The Southampton parade finished with a ceremony at Agawam Park.

Federal, state and county offices were closed for the day, as were most big banks and all U.S. Postal Service facilities.

Many restaurants across Long Island also honored veterans with free meals.
