Police: Report of plane encounter with drone unfounded

News 12 Long Island has learned there has been a report of a close encounter between a drone and a plane in western Nassau County.



Police tell News 12 they investigated the incident with negative results.



A British Airways pilot told air traffic control he spotted a black drone with four propellers while approaching JFK last night over Floral Park.



The incident reportedly happened at about 2,000 feet.



Under federal law, drones are not to be flown above 400 feet.



Nassau police say they launched their aviation unit, but could find not evidence of a drone.
