Island Vote: 3-way race for Riverhead supervisor

The three-way race for Riverhead supervisor may be too close to call, according to political experts.
After six years in office as a Republican, incumbent Supervisor Sean Walter, a conservative, lost the Republican primary to Town Councilwoman Jodi Giglio. They are now opposing each other for the town's top job.
"I'm very proud of the record of accomplishment, and I think the residents understand it's not time to change horses," says Walter.
Giglio says she is "more capable of creating efficiency in government."
The Democrat in the race is businessman Anthony Coates. He blames Walter and Giglio for the town's worst bond rating in Suffolk.
"When they took office, they had $10.5 million in the bank. All that surplus is gone, and so with all of the wealth Route 58 created ... this town's broke," says Coates.
An emerging campaign issue is the candidates accusing Giglio of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Suffolk Police Benevolent Association to convert the Riverhead Police Department into a Suffolk County police precinct.
Giglio denied taking any money from the PBA.
