Island Vote: The race for Southampton supervisor
The race for the open Southampton supervisor seat pits the current Suffolk legislator against a Village of Southampton trustee.
Jay Schneiderman is a registered independent running on the Democratic line. Schneiderman is a county legislator and a former supervisor of neighboring East Hampton.
"I bring a lot of skills and experience to the table, so I can help solve some of the issues like traffic and water-quality deterioration," says Schneiderman.
Republican candidate Rich Yastrzemski is a Southampton Village trustee and says he is well-tuned into his community.
"Everybody likes to talk, everybody has opinions, everybody has ideas, but it's really listening to the people and the residents and the taxpayers about what they want and what's important to them," says Yastrzemski.
The candidates will surely have to tackle issues concerning the environment and overdevelopment in order to capture votes.
Current Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst is not seeking re-election. She's running for Congress in next November's election.
