Town demolishes abandoned home in Mastic
The Town of Brookhaven demolished a blighted home in Mastic Thursday morning.
Residents say the house at 119 Eleanor Ave. was an abandoned eyesore for two decades.
The demolition was unanimously approved by the town in August.
It was the third house in three weeks taken down in the Mastic area -- one of the 50 expected to be torn down by the Town of Brookhaven by the end of the year.
"If the house becomes structurally unsound, we have the legal authority to take them down," says Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine.
The Town of Brookhaven says it costs anywhere between $12,000 to $55,000 to tear down a home, and the owner of the property is responsible for the bill.
