Crash injures motorcyclist, closes LIE
The Long Island Expressway has reopened following a serious motorcycle crash near Exit 56 Wednesday.
Police say 56-year-old Charles Clayton, of Mastic, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the HOV barrier wall at around 4:10 p.m. He was thrown from the vehicle.
The LIE was closed at Exit 56 eastbound following the crash. Traffic was at a standstill for hours.
Clayton suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, according to police.
