Suffolk family reunited with missing service dog
A Nesconset family has been reunited with their service dog after she went missing during a storm last week.
As News 12 has reported, the German shepherd named Lulu apparently jumped out of a window Friday at the home of the Varvaro family. Lulu helps Christopher, a 13-year-old boy with autism.
News 12 cameras were inside the family's home when a pair of good Samaritans spotted Lulu near Dorchester Park in Lake Grove.
Damion and Stephanie Cocchi say they recognized the dog from posters displayed around town. They called Lulu's name and the dog's ears perked up, the couple says. Then they called the Varvaro house.
"I am happy. I am excited. I can't breathe," said Kimberly Varvaro, Christopher's mother. "I can't believe we got her. She's healthy and happy. She doesn't look hurt, so we're glad about that. I'm just overwhelmed."
Christopher hasn't yet been reunited with his service dog because he's out of town visiting his father.
