The husband of a Lake Grove woman found dead inside her home last week was taken into custody yesterday by New York State Police, authorities say.
According to state police, Paul Leitgeb was located in a densely wooded area near the Appalachian Trail in the town of Pawling after Suffolk County police requested assistance locating him.
Leitgeb, 49, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
State police say he was eventually apprehended and handed over to Suffolk County police detectives who were on the scene. Leitgeb, a retired NYPD officer, was transported by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie with self-inflicted lacerations.
Leitgeb was brought back to Suffolk County and is being treated at an area hospital. He is expected to be arraigned when he is released from the hospital.
Officers responded to the couple's Win Place home in Lake Grove last Thursday and found Leitgeb's wife, Tricia Odierna, dead. Authorities have not disclosed any details surrounding her death.
The couple shared a home with six children. Odierna had two of her own children, in addition to her three nephews and a stepchild.
Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Leitgeb was taken into custody Wednesday, Oct. 7. This was incorrect, he was taken into custody on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The article has been updated to reflect the change.
