DogFest raises money for service dog group
DogFest 2015 took place Saturday at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa.
Community members and dog lovers came together to raise money for Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit that provides highly trained service dogs for children and adults with disabilities.
"It's a two-year process to train a dog to become an assistances dog, so we also provide on-going follow-up services for the working life of the dog once it's matched with a person from our wait list," said Debra Dougherty, Canine Companions for Independence member.
Canine Companions hoped to raise $60,000.
