West Islip, Islip schools lockout lifted after prisoner escapes custody

West Islip schools were locked down Friday following a prisoner escape at Good Samaritan Hospital.

The hospital says the suspect assaulted an officer and fled the emergency room just before 12 p.m.

Officers went after the man, and he was brought back to the emergency room just after 1 p.m., according to hospital officials.

A message was sent to West Islip parents detailing the lockdown and informing them that classes would continue as scheduled. The lockdown was lifted following the incident, and normal dismissal was held.
