A Floral Park man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery as he traveled in Colombia.
John Mariani was attacked Friday night when gunmen in a car and on a motorcycle managed to stop his taxi in the wealthy city of Medellin.
Authorities say Mariani refused to hand over his wallet, and was fatally shot.
Newsday reports that the 65-year-old was traveling with a friend.
The U.S. Embassy did not immediately comment.
Colombian police offered a $16,000 reward for information on the suspects.
