Man accused of road rage assault with child in car
Police say they have arrested a man accused of road rage with a child in the car.
Police say 28-year-old Rouson Hinton, of Uniondale, was driving his Lexus erratically on the Meadowbrook Parkway near Hempstead Turnpike Sunday afternoon, and in a rage cut off the driver of a Nissan, forcing him to stop in the left lane.
"The operator of the Lexus felt that he had been aggrieved, and he therefore blocked off the Nissan from going any further," says Maj. Joseph Tripodo, of the New York State Police.
With nowhere to go, police say the driver of the Nissan, pulled down his window and started to apologize. That's when they say Hinton became violent.
Witnesses told police the driver of the red Lexus repeatedly punched the driver of the Nissan. Officials say the 27-year-old victim suffered a broken jaw and broken nose.
The victim was rushed to Winthrop Medical Center.
Police tracked Hinton's license plate number, and he was arrested at his house a short time later.
Hinton is facing several charges, including endangering the welfare of a child because his 2-year-old was in the car.
Police say Hinton's son is now in the care of the child's grandmother.
