Inaugural Suffolk Marathon kicks off Sunday
Suffolk County will host its inaugural Suffolk Marathon on Sunday to benefit veterans.
The 26.2-mile run begins and ends at Heckscher State Park, and stretches all the way to Patchogue. Most of the route is along Montauk Highway. There will also be a half-marathon.
More than 3,200 runners are expected at the race.
Officials are warning that cars parked along Montauk Highway in the area during the race risk being towed. Part of the Heckscher State Parkway will also be closed during the event.
The event promises to be a good one for spectators, too. Along the course, several villages are setting up festivals, including Sayville and Patchogue.
Organizers say all net proceeds from the race and its registrations will go toward enhancing local veteran services.
