It survived the horrific devastation and destruction of the 9/11 terror attacks, and now saplings from the famous "survivor tree" have made their way to Long Island.
The survivor tree is a Callery pear tree, which was found under the rubble of ground zero and has since flourished back to health.
The saplings were delivered Wednesday to the Commack Fire Department. Parts of the tree will then be distributed to various fire and police departments that have 9/11 memorials.
Steven Perry, of John Brown High School, says the tree is a representation that life does indeed go on, even in the middle of tragedy.
Perry says the tree serves as a way for the older generation to teach the younger generation about 9/11.
The trees have gone to the sites of other past tragedies including Newtown, Connecticut and the Boston Marathon.
