Suspect sought in string of LI gas station robberies

Police are searching for the suspect who has robbed eight gas stations in Nassau County and six in Suffolk County.

The latest holdup came last night at the BP station on Woodfield Road in Lakeview. In surveillance video, a man is seen pointing a gun at the clerk.

Police say the man is also responsible for armed robberies at Nassau gas stations in Elmont, Hempstead, Baldwin, Franklin Square, Valley Stream and Seaford.

In Suffolk, police say the same man is suspected of robbing gas stations in Riverhead, Centereach, Holbrook, West Babylon, Amityville and Holtsville.

According to police, the man is armed with a black semi-automatic handgun that he has consistently covered with a T-shirt or a cloth during the robbery. Police say the suspect has also worn a white camouflage hat.

Police say the suspect commits his robberies at night and is described as relatively calm during each of the incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Police's Robbery Squad at 516-573-8040 or Suffolk police at 1-800-220-TIPS.
