3 boys rescued after canoe drifts out to sea
Police say three boys were rescued from the Long Island Sound last night after their canoe drifted out to sea.
According to police, the Huntington Station boys launched their canoe from Crab Meadow Beach in Northport to fish in the Sound.
Police say while the boys paddled out just before 7 p.m., wind gusts blew them nearly 2 miles offshore.
Marine officers noticed the boys, ages 12 and 10 years old, drifting and brought them back to the beach by boat.
Amy Miles, the mother of two of the boys in the canoe, says her sons were in contact with her by cellphone. She says they did not panic during the ordeal.
All the children were wearing life jackets.
