Police say a woman was killed when her car crashed and then erupted in flames on Route 347 in East Setauket early Saturday morning.
The 77-year-old Port Jefferson Station woman was headed west in a Chrysler 300 at around 5 a.m. Her car struck a guardrail and caught fire.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
