Selden teen returns home after 8-month hospital stay

A large gathering of community members and loved ones helped welcome home a Selden teenager who spent the last eight months in the hospital.
Erika Gottlieb, 13, had been at Stony Brook University Hospital since the beginning of the year with bone cancer.
Doctors say they performed a rare 16-hour internal hemipelvectomy as a way of removing part of the pelvis in an effort to treat the cancer.
They say Gottlieb is cancer-free and her prognosis is good.
The teen will return to the hospital over the next few weeks for reconstructive surgery.
