When two young friends from Islip heard their neighbor was diagnosed with cancer, they set out to make lemonade.
Grace Nash and Olivia Piazzolla, both age 10, heard about their neighbor's pancreatic cancer diagnosis and wanted to help. Piazzolla went online and learned about the Lustgarten Foundation, which raises money for pancreatic cancer research.
The girls also learned about Alex's Lemonade Stand, an organization that raises money for childhood cancers, and they set out to do something similar.
They set up a stand in their neighborhood using a relative's recipe for lemonade. In just one day, they raised more than $200 for the Lustgarten Foundation.
Cablevision underwrites all of the Lustgarten Foundation's costs so that all of the money it raises goes directly to research. Cablevision is also the parent company of News 12.
