Robert Golub has been behind bars since 1989 for the murder of Kelly Anne Tinyes, and the victim's family is looking to make sure he stays in prison by denying him parole.
In March of 1989, the case of 13-year-old Kelly Tinyes began as a report of a missing person. The teen's body was later found stuffed into a sleeping bag in the basement closet of a neighbor's house.
Her neighbor, Robert Golub, who was 21 years old at the time, was charged with and convicted of her murder. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
"He did a horrible, horrible act when he murdered Kelly," says her father, Richard Tinyes, of Valley Stream. "Beat, strangled and sexually molested my beautiful daughter for no reason at all."
Richard Tinyes says that 4,000 people signed a petition the first time Golub, who is now 48 years old, was up for parole in 2013. He was denied then, but is up for parole again this fall.
The elder Tinyes is making a plea to the public to sign an online petition to keep his daughter's killer from walking as a free man.
Kelly Tinyes would have turned 40 this year, and her parents say they have spent the last 26 years wondering what she could have accomplished.
The Tinyes family will make their victim impact statements before the parole board in October.
