Officials meet with Sandy victims in Long Beach
Government officials visited Long Beach Monday to help residents who have had trouble collecting insurance claims and rebuilding since Superstorm Sandy.
U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-Garden City) and a FEMA representative spoke with residents about a program that will review their flood insurance claims.
FEMA, which institutes the National Flood Insurance Program, has opened up the time period for affected residents to make claims if they feel they were underpaid for the damage to their homes, Rice says.
The congresswoman says she met with several homeowners who are still displaced or in the process of rebuilding their homes.
The deadline for the program is Sept. 15. Residents who wish to begin the process of having their case reviewed can call the FEMA Sandy flood review number at 866-337-4262.
