Rain floods NSP under Route 106/107 overpass

Friday's downpour flooded part of the Northern State Parkway.
The rain closed the parkway in both directions under the Route 106/107 overpass for more than three hours. Some motorists got stuck in the water.
The parkway is hit hard in that spot when there is heavy rain.
The state Department of Transportation says it is "working on a long-term solution and a new, positive drainage system to handle the increased volume of runoff."
Civic leaders say they've asked if anything could be done to prevent flooding in the spot, but that they've gotten the feeling that high costs are holding back work to alleviate the flooding. The DOT spokeswoman did not have a timeframe or dollar amount for the new system.
