Residents of mobile home park concerned over future

Residents of a trailer park in Nassau County are worried their yearslong battle to keep their homes in place could be coming to an end.

News 12 has been following the story since 2007, when the Syosset Mobile Home Park was sold to STP Associates. The company got a warrant to clear the park in 2013.

Ever since then, the owners of the mobile homes have been fighting in court. In July, a judge ruled that the court could issue eviction warrants no sooner than today.

Residents told News 12 that the main problem with the evictions is that many of the tenants are senior citizens and disabled. They also say the mobile homes are just too old to move.

"We have no place to go at all," said Debbie St. Clair, who became disabled after a car crash 10 years ago. "I've been trying to get accepted anywhere in affordable housing. The waiting lists are years and years long. There are no openings anywhere."

The spokesperson for STP has not returned News 12's calls for comment. An attorney for the company had no comment.
