The start of the school year is still weeks away, but more than 600 Nassau students shopped for free school clothes and supplies on Sunday at a special event.
Kids picked out coats, shoes and more in Lynbrook at the Back 2 School Store, an event organized by the National Council of Jewish Women's Peninsula Section.
Each child was paired with a personal shopper in a setting that resembled a department store. In addition to clothes, each student got to select a backpack filled with school supplies.
The items are donated and purchased wholesale, according to organizers.
While students shopped, their parents took advantage of a resource center that featured information about the community and social services.
