Bellport village adopts law allowing bed-and-breakfasts
New bed-and-breakfasts could soon be popping up in the Village of Bellport.
Over the weekend, the village trustees adopted a new law that will now allow bed-and-breakfasts in residential areas.
Under new regulations, the establishments can have a maximum of four rooms, must have adequate parking and they must be owner-occupied. The bed-and-breakfasts will be kept at least 500 feet apart, officials say.
The new rules don't apply to homes rented on sites like Airbnb.
Trustees say it will be an important factor in developing the economic welfare of Bellport by bringing more tourists into the area.
Some residents say they do not like the idea as they moved to the area because it was quiet.
